Acceptable Use Policy

Version 1.0, last updated · Draft

Draft. This document is being reviewed by a solicitor before RunYourBlock opens to customers, and may change. Questions: [email protected].

This policy applies to everyone who uses RunYourBlock: account owners, directors, leaseholders, occupiers and anyone else a block invites. It forms part of our Terms of Service. It's here to keep the Service safe and useful for every block and every resident.

Use RunYourBlock lawfully and fairly

Don't use RunYourBlock to:

  • break the law, or help someone else break it;
  • harass, threaten, bully or discriminate against anyone, including residents, directors and contractors;
  • publish or send anything defamatory, obscene or hateful, or anything that infringes someone else's rights (such as copyright);
  • send marketing or bulk messages that the recipients haven't agreed to, or anything unrelated to running the block;
  • collect or use residents' personal data for anything other than running the block, or share it without a lawful reason;
  • pretend to be someone else, or misrepresent your role in the block or the company;
  • put pressure on residents with false or misleading statements about what they owe or what the law requires.

Keep the Service secure

Don't:

  • try to get into accounts, blocks or data you're not authorised to see;
  • upload viruses, malware or anything designed to cause harm;
  • probe, scan or test the Service for weaknesses without our written permission. If you think you've found a security problem, please tell us at [email protected] and don't use or share it;
  • interfere with the Service, overload it, or get around its limits or security measures;
  • copy, scrape or reverse-engineer the software, except where the law allows;
  • resell or rent access to the Service, or use it to build a competing product.

Directors' responsibilities

Directors and account owners decide who can use their block's workspace. Please:

  • give each person only the access they need, and remove it when someone leaves the building or the board;
  • make sure what you send to residents is accurate, and check notices and demands against your leases before you send them;
  • respect residents' privacy: their details are for running the block.

Reporting misuse

If you see something on RunYourBlock that breaks this policy, email [email protected]. If it's about how your block is run, such as a dispute about service charges, please raise it with your block's company first. We can't decide disputes between residents and their company.

What we do about breaches

Depending on how serious it is, we may remove content, restrict a user's access, or suspend or end a block's subscription as our Terms of Service allow. Even then, the block's company keeps read-only access to its statutory records and can export its data. We may report illegal activity to the authorities.
