# LEASE (The Leasehold Advisory Service)

A government-funded body that gives free initial advice on residential leasehold law to leaseholders, landlords, RTM companies, residents' management companies and others.

Also called: LEASE, Leasehold Advisory Service, lease-advice.org.

LEASE is usually the first place to go when you're not sure of the law. Its website has guides and frequently asked questions on service charges, Section 20, the right to manage and much more, and it offers free initial advice.

## When to use it

- You're unsure whether something in your lease or a notice is right.
- You want an independent view before you write to leaseholders about a dispute.
- You're starting the right to manage and want to understand the process.

## What it isn't

LEASE gives initial advice; it won't act for you, run your claim or represent you at a tribunal. For that, you need a solicitor or other professional. Every RunYourBlock guide links to LEASE for this reason: our guides are general information, not advice on your building.
